3 tbsp sour cream
6 tbsp mayonnaise
¾ tsp garlic powder (or double amount of garlic granules)
3 tsp prepared horseradish (or double amount of horseradish cream sauce)
⅓ tsp salt

Steps:

  • Mix thoroughly together all the ingredients by hand.
  • Refrigerate or use immediately.

Fried Mushrooms with Feta Cheese Sauce image

This is the recipe I used in a cooking competition that had to use mushrooms and feta cheese. I hope you enjoy it as much as the judges of the competition did!

1 cup vegetable oil for frying
1 cup bread crumbs
1 (16 ounce) package sliced fresh mushrooms
3 eggs, beaten
3 ounces crumbled feta cheese
3 tablespoons lemon juice
water, or as needed

Steps:

  • Heat oil in a small saucepan to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Spread bread crumbs into a shallow dish. Dip mushroom slices in beaten egg, dredge them in bread crumbs to coat, and cook them in hot oil until golden brown, about 5 to 6 minutes. Repeat until all mushrooms are cooked; drain on a plate lined with paper towels.
  • Blend feta cheese and lemon juice in a blender. Stream water into feta mixture as it blends until you get a desirable consistency. Serve with mushrooms.

We love this dipping sauce with our fried mushrooms.

1/2 c sour cream
1/2 c mayonnaise
1 Tbsp lemon juice
1 tsp dijon mustard
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp thyme
1/8 tsp cayenne pepper
1/8 tsp pepper

Steps:

  • 1. Place all ingredients in a bowl.
  • 2. Whisk until well blended.
  • 3. Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour before serving.
  • 4. You can make this a day ahead if desired.

Mushrooms are one of my favorites. I had this dish as an appetizer at a restaurant and couldn't believe how simple, delicious, and easy to make it was. I used the same concept as Shake'n Bake® to make this dish, but instead of baking, I fried them. It can either be served as an appetizer or even side dish and whenever I make it for my friends, they can't seem to get enough!

1 cup bread crumbs
2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese
½ teaspoon garlic powder
½ teaspoon dried parsley
salt to taste
1 large egg
12 medium mushrooms
2 cloves garlic
2 cups oil for frying, or as needed
3 tablespoons tartar sauce

Steps:

  • Combine bread crumbs, Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, parsley, and salt in a zip-top bag.
  • Beat egg in a large bowl. Add mushrooms and toss until well coated. Place one mushroom in the bag, seal, and shake to coat. Repeat with remaining mushrooms.
  • Heat oil in a deep-fryer or large saucepan to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
  • Deep-fry mushrooms until golden brown, about 5 minutes. Remove to a paper towel lined plate to cool and drain.
  • Crush garlic cloves into tartar sauce and mix well. Place into a small dish and serve alongside mushrooms for dipping.

Fried mushrooms are whole button mushrooms coated with a yummy batter and then deep-fried. They make a delicious and perfectly crispy snack dipped in an easy-to-make spicy mayo sauce. Enjoy!!

1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon mustard
1/2 teaspoon paprika (regular or smoked)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
salt and pepper
1/2 cup buttermilk, well shaken
1 teaspoon chipotle hot pepper sauce (optional)
8 ounces whole button mushrooms
crisco oil (for frying)

Steps:

  • MUSHROOMS: Combine first six ingredients in resealable plastic bag.
  • In a medium bowl, combine buttermilk and pepper sauce. Add mushrooms and let soak for about 5 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, heat 2-3 inches oil in deep fryer or large deep saucepan to 375°F.
  • Remove mushrooms from buttermilk mixture and toss in flour mixture. Carefully drop 2-3 mushrooms in hot oil and fry 2-3 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Drain on paper towel-lined plate.
  • CHIPOTLE MAYONNAISE SAUCE: Combine mayonnaise and hot pepper sauce and serve with mushrooms.
