12 PAGAN PRAYERS FOR THE YULE SABBAT - LEARN RELIGIONS
12-pagan-prayers-for-the-yule-sabbat-learn-religions image

From learnreligions.com
  • Prayer to the Earth. Just because the earth is cold doesn't mean there's nothing going on down there in the soil. Think about what lies dormant in your own life right now, and consider what may bloom a few months from now.
  • Yule Sunrise Prayer. When the sun first rises on Yule, on or around December 21 (or June 21 if you're below the equator), it's time to recognize that the days will gradually begin to lengthen.
  • Prayer to the Winter Goddess. Despite the fact that some people hate cold weather, it does have its advantages. After all, a good cold day gives us an opportunity to cuddle up indoors with the people we love most.
  • Yule Prayer for Counting Blessings. Although Yule should be a time of joy and happiness, for many people it is stressful. Take a moment to be thankful for your blessings and remember those less fortunate.
  • Prayer for the Beginning of Winter. In early winter, the skies become darker and the smell of fresh snow fills the air. Take a few minutes to think about the fact that even if the skies are cold and dark, it's only temporary, because the sun will return to us after the winter solstice.
  • Yule Sunset Prayer. The night before the winter solstice is the longest night of the year. In the morning, with the return of the sun, the days will begin to grow longer.
  • Nordic Yule Prayer. Yule is a time to set aside animosity between yourself and people who would normally antagonize you. The Norse had a tradition that enemies who met under a bough of mistletoe were obligated to lay down their arms.
  • Snow Prayer for Yule. Depending on where you live, you may be seeing snowfall long before Yule arrives. Take a moment to appreciate its beauty and its magic, both as it falls and once it covers the ground.
  • Yule Prayer to the Old Gods. In many Pagan traditions, both contemporary and ancient, the old gods are honored at the time of the winter solstice. Take a moment to pay them tribute, and call upon them during the Yule season.
  • Celtic Yule Blessing. The Celtic people knew the importance of the solstice. It was important to put aside staple foods for the coming months because it would be long before anything fresh grew again.

YULE RECIPES: 13 TRADITIONAL & MODERN WINTER SOLSTICE …

From otherworldlyoracle.com
  • Ham (In Place of a Roast Boar) *A Traditional Yet Modern Yule Recipe* To our Norse ancestors, the Winter Solstice (or Yule as they called it), was a time of being together and feasting.
  • Wassail *A Traditional Yule Recipe* Wassail is an ancient Yule tradition in the British Isles that still continues today. Hot wassail is essentially a hot cider drink infused with heady spices and fruit juices.
  • Cioppino *Italian Seafood Soup* For Christmas and Yule. If you’re Italian, you know how decadent Cioppino is as a Winter holiday meal. A tomato-based soup jam-packed with shellfish like clams, mussels, oysters, as well as calamari, fish, and basically any seafood you like.
  • Surf and Turf *Steak and Crab* I don’t know where you live. But whether it’s out in the country or near the sea, surf and turf for the holidays is always a great choice.
  • Prime Rib With Pureed Parsnip. Prime rib. Yummy. One of my all-time favorite Yule meal recipes that any meat lover will drool over. Frankly, my favorite part of THIS meal is the horseradish dressing.
  • Eggnog (Alcoholic and Non-alcoholic) *Traditional American Recipe* You love it. Or you freaking hate it. Either way, eggnog made our list for Yule recipes.
  • Yule Log Recipe. Ever made a Yule log? Like a real log decorated with greens, ribbons, and topped off with candles? Or thrown into the Yule fire? If not, don’t worry about it.
  • Rum Cake. Nothing says the Winter Solstice to me than a rum-soaked bunt cake…aka the rum cake. I have a few family members who enjoy making rum cakes every year and giving them as gifts.
  • Sun Wheel Bread *A Traditional Yule Jul Recipe* On Yule, aka the Winter Solstice, it is the shortest day and longest night of the year. Which to our prehistoric ancestors might have first felt scary, but then they realized the next day, the sun began its triumphant return to the sky.
  • Fire Roasted Tomato Basil Crab Bisque. Soup of any kind is a great appetizer OR lunch for Yule. I’m a huge fan of seafood bisques, and particularly for the Winter holidays.
