ANGEL FOOD BARS 1965

Steps:
- Cream 1/2 cup of the butter and granulated sugar well.
- Beat in the eggs and vanilla.
- Add the wafer crumbs and coconut.
- Mix all well.
- Pat into a 10 x 15 inch cookie sheet.
- Bake 325 for 20 to 25 minutes.
- Combine remaining ingredients brown sugar, last 1/2 cup butter, and the pecans in a saucepot.
- Mix well, stirring, and boil for three minutes.
- Pour over the bars while warm and spread evenly.
- Place under broiler about four inches below, and broil until bubbly.
- Remove.
- Cut into 50 bars.

SURFER BARS
These are a very rich, bar type cookie. Easy to prepare, a favorite with young and old alike. Great for picnics, potlucks, holiday cookie trays or any get together. Warning!! They can become "addictive" ;)

Steps:
- Preheat oven to 350°F.
- Grease an 8 inch square baking pan.
- In a large saucepan over medium heat, melt butterscotch pieces, sugar and butter, stirring constantly until all is melted.
- Remove from heat.
- Cool butterscotch mixture slightly.
- Add egg and beat well.
- Add flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt, mix well.
- Stir in remaining ingredients.
- Spread mixture evenly in 8 inch square pan.
- Bake at 350°F for 20-25 minutes.
- Cool in pan on wire rack.
- When cool, cut into bars.

CALIFORNIA SQUARES 1965
This came from my girlfriend Linda again a long time ago. Such a simple bar to make. If I remember right we made these for both our bridal showers. Maybe it was the only recipe we knew how to make.

Steps:
- Base:.
- Sift together the sugar, flour, salt, baking powder.
- Add the wet ingredients; eggs, warmed milk, butter, and vanilla.
- Beat all well; pour into a greased 8 inch cake pan.
- Bake at 375 degrees Fahrenheit for about 20 minutes.
- Topping:.
- Combine the coconut, evaporated milk, butter, and brown sugar until thick.
- When the base is done, remove from oven.
- Spread the coconut/brown sugar mixture on top.
- Place back into the oven and broil until brown and bubbly all over.
- Remove to rack and let cool completely.
- Cut into bars.

- Melt margarine in saucepan over medium heat. Add sugar, cocoa and egg. mix; bring to a boil, boil for 1 minute.
- Add remaining ingredients all at once.
- Remove from heat; mix well. Press into 8x8-inch pan. Cool.
- Ice with almond icing and cut into squares.

Rec'd this from my Aunt Mary in 1965 when I was baking and selling Christmas boxes. Oldie but still a goodie...

Steps:
- Mix melted butter with crushed graham crakers.
- Press into 8 inch square pan.
- Mix the coconut with the sweetned condensed milk (Eagle Brand) Pour this over the base and bake.
- 350 degrees F.
- for 15 minutes.
- Remove from oven cool completely.
- Mix butter, icing powder, melted chocolate and evaporated milk, to make a frosting.
- Ice the cooled squares.
- Cut into oblong squares.
- Note: I find that there is enough icing for two cakes, (but that is my preference).
