I got this recipe someone had submitted in a Christmas magazine. It tastes fantastic and it's a dip that you can make the night before put in the fridge and just pop in the oven when needed. You can adjust the bacon to your taste.

1 loaf sourdough bread rounds (Extra loaf of bread if wanting to use for dipping)
1 cup sour cream
2 cups grated cheddar cheese
1 1/2 cups cooked crumbled bacon
8 ounces cream cheese (softened)
3 green onions, chopped

Steps:

  • Preheat oven to 350F (180c).
  • Cut off the top of bread and save it for the lid.
  • dig out pieces bread and save for dipping.
  • Cook the bacon till crispy and put aside.
  • Mix sour cream and cream cheese till soft.
  • Add rest of ingredients.
  • Place mixture in hollowed out bread.
  • replace lid.
  • Wrap in foil with shiny side inches.
  • Bake for 1 1/2 hours till dip is warm inside.
  • Have bread for dipping and whatever vegetables.

I was tired of making spinach artichoke dip and saw this recipe on a bed and breakfast site. This dip disapeared at my last wine tasting party. Everyone loved it!

1 round sourdough loaf (original recipe uses a french Bread round)
1 pint sour cream
1/2 cup of chopped green onion
1 cup of chopped ham
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese (softened)
1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese
sourdough loaf or cracker (optional)

Steps:

  • Pre-heat oven to 350.
  • Cut off the top of the Sourdough round.
  • Hollow out the bread to form a bowl shape (Save the left over bread).
  • Combine onions, Cream Cheese, Sour Cream, Ham and Cheese.
  • Mix until completely blended.
  • Fill the Bread shell with the cream cheese mixture and replace the top of the bread.
  • Bake for 25 minutes.
  • Cut up the left over bread into bite size pieces and use for dipping.
  • I cut up extra sourdough bread or serve crackers with this dip.
  • Enjoy!

2 ½ cups all-purpose flour, or as needed
1 teaspoon salt
⅔ cup sourdough starter
1 large egg
1 tablespoon vegetable oil

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease a large baking sheet.
  • Mix 2 cups of flour and salt together in a large mixing bowl. Add sourdough starter, egg, and vegetable oil. Mix well. Add remaining flour as needed. Dough should not be very sticky; if it comes out sticky, add more flour as needed, until it reaches a consistency that can be easily kneaded.
  • Knead dough until smooth, 5 to 8 minutes.
  • Roll dough out until it is fairly thin, roughly 1/4 inch. Place dough on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until golden brown, about 30 minutes.

2 ½ cups sourdough starter
1 ½ cups water
1 (.25 ounce) package active dry yeast
3 tablespoons butter, melted
3 tablespoons white sugar
6 cups bread flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons cornmeal, or as needed

Steps:

  • Bring sourdough starter to room temperature.
  • Heat water to 120 degrees F (49 degrees C) to 130 degrees F (54 degrees C) in a saucepan. Transfer to a glass bowl; add yeast. Cover with plastic wrap; let stand about 10 minutes.
  • Stir melted butter and sugar together in a bowl. Add butter mixture to yeast water; stir in starter.
  • Combine 3 cups flour and salt in a large bowl. Add starter mixture slowly; mix well. Stir in 2 cups flour; turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface.
  • Knead in as much remaining flour as possible to create a stiff, smooth ball, at least 10 minutes. Transfer ball to a lightly oiled bowl; cover with plastic wrap. Let rise until doubled, 45 minutes to 2 hours.
  • Punch dough down; turn out onto a floured surface. Divide into 14 balls; cover and let rise for 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Sprinkle cornmeal onto a baking sheet; place dough balls on top.
  • Place baking sheet into the preheated oven. Spray the walls of the oven with water once to create steam; bake until tops are golden, for a total of 20 to 25 minutes. Cool on a wire rack.

1 cup sour cream
1 (4 ounce) package chipped beef, chopped
1/4 cup green onion, finely chopped
1 dash Worcestershire sauce
2 tablespoons green peppers, chopped
8 inches sourdough bread, round loaf

Steps:

  • Mix the ingredients well except bread.
  • Slice top off bread round and hollow out, carefully, making sure there are no weak places in bread shell.
  • Cube the bread removed and set aside.
  • Fill bread shell with chipped beef mixture and put top back on.
  • Wrap in foil and bake at 350ºF for 1 1/2 hours.
  • Use soft bread from interior of the loaf to dip into hot mixture.

2 slices OSCAR MAYER Bacon
1 oval sourdough bread loaf (1 lb.)
1/2 lb. (8 oz.) Queso Blanco VELVEETA, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
1 cup BREAKSTONE'S or KNUDSEN Sour Cream
1/2 cup finely chopped white onions
1 can (4 oz.) chopped green chiles, undrained
1 pkg. (8 oz.) KRAFT Shredded Hot Habanero Cheese

Steps:

  • Cut bacon lengthwise in half; cook as directed on package. Meanwhile, cut football-shaped piece from top of bread loaf; remove center, leaving 1-inch-thick shell. Cut removed bread (including bread top) into bite-size pieces.
  • Combine all remaining ingredients except shredded cheese in large microwaveable bowl. Microwave on HIGH 3 min. or until VELVEETA is completely melted and mixture is well blended, stirring after each minute. Stir in shredded cheese. Microwave 2 min.; stir until shredded cheese is completely melted and mixture is well blended.
  • Pour dip into bread bowl. Top with 1 bacon strip. Cut remaining bacon strips into short pieces; use to garnish dip to resemble football laces as shown in photo. Serve with bread pieces.

6 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup chopped green onions
1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
2 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1-1/2 cups cubed fully cooked ham
1 round loaf (1 pound) sourdough bread
Chopped fresh parsley, optional

Steps:

  • In a saucepan, combine sour cream, cream cheese, onions and Worcestershire sauce; cook and stir over low heat until blended. Add cheese and ham; cook and stir until cheese is melted and ham is heated through. Cut off top of loaf; carefully hollow out top and bottom, leaving a 1/2-in. shell. Cut bread into cubes.
