A super simple slow cooker recipe for Hamburger Steaks or Salisbury Steak using frozen ground beef patties and just a few other ingredients.

1 2-lb box frozen hamburger patties
Salt & pepper
Garlic powder
1 10.5-oz can Golden Mushroom Soup
1 can of water
1 packet brown gravy mix
2 tablespoons cornstarch

Steps:

  • Season frozen hamburger patties with salt, pepper and garlic powder then arrange in a slow cooker as shown in the pictures (overlapping so everything fits in one layer).
  • Combine soup, one soup can of water and gravy mix in a separate bowl then mix well. Pour mixture evenly over hamburger patties.
  • Cook on low for 5-7 hours or high for 2-4 hours.
  • Optional: So long as the hamburger steaks have cook undisturbed, grease should settle in the middle of the slow cooker (between the patties). Use a ladle to slowly skim the grease from the center then discard.
  • Remove hamburger steaks then cover to keep warm.
  • Ladle out about 1/2 cup of broth/gravy then cover slow cooker immediately and increase temperature to High.
  • Add a couple ice cubes to the 1/2 cup reserved broth/gravy to cool it a little (we just don't want it to be HOT - a little warm is OK) then add cornstarch and mix until smooth.
  • Pour cornstarch slurry into slow cooker, whisk until completely smooth, cover then cook for about 5-10 minutes or until thickened.
  • Add hamburger steaks back to gravy then serve.

1 tbsp vegetable oil
1 lb ground beef
1 egg, lightly beaten
½ cup breadcrumb
1 tsp garlic powder
1 cup onion, thinly sliced
1 clove garlic, finely chopped
3 tbsp plain flour
1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
2 cups beef broth
salt, to taste
black pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • FIRST STEP:In a mixing bowl combine the ground beef, egg, breadcrumb, garlic powder, salt and black pepper. Bring the meat together and form into 8 even hamburger steaks. SECOND STEP:Place a saute pan on medium heat and add the vegetable oil. Lay the hamburger steaks into the saute pan and cook for 5 minutes on each side. THIRD STEP:Once the meat is browned on all sides transfer to a plate and cover with aluminum foil to keep in heat. In the same saute pan add the onions, cook for 10 minutes. FOURTH STEP:Then add the chopped garlic, cook for 1 minute. Stir the flour into the onions and cook out for 1 minute. FIFTH STEP:Gradually pour the beef broth into the saute pan and whisk continuously to form a gravy. Reduce the gravy for 10 minutes until thickened, season with Worcestershire sauce, salt and black pepper. SIXTH STEP:Place the hamburger steaks into the onion gravy and warm through, serve immediately. Enjoy!

2 lbs steak (I use cheaper cuts like shoulder steak)
1 (10 1/2 ounce) can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon Kitchen Bouquet (or equivalent)
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper (freshly ground)
1/2 onion, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
2 tablespoons flour

Steps:

  • Season the steak with the salt and pepper and cut into serving sized pieces.
  • Mix soup, water, onion with kitchen bouquet in 2 quart crock pot.
  • Add the steak by dredging the pieces in the soup mixture and adding to the crock pot.
  • Cook on low for 8-10 hours. Adjust time for hotter-cooking newer crock pots by cooking for 6-8 hours.
  • At the end of the cook time, mix flour with 1/4 cup water and add half the flour slurry, allowing 15 minutes to thicken. Add the remainder if necessary to thicken further.
  • Serve with noodles or rice.

  • Add beef, including browned bits and drippings, to crock pot, along with remaining ingredients.
