A Really Good Tuna Salad image

A classic...and the only tuna salad recipe you'll ever need.

Provided by Jennifer Segal

Categories     Salads

Time 20m

Yield 2 cups (enough for 4 sandwiches)

Number Of Ingredients 10

2 (5-ounce) cans chunk white tuna packed in water
½ cup mayonnaise, best quality such as Hellmann's or Duke's
2 ribs celery, finely diced
2 scallions, light and dark green parts, thinly sliced
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (from 1 lemon)
¾ teaspoon Dijon mustard
2 tablespoons sweet pickle relish
3 tablespoons finely chopped flat-leaf parsley
¼ teaspoon salt
¼ teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Steps:

  • Drain the tuna in a fine mesh strainer. With the tuna in the strainer, use paper towels to pat and blot the tuna until completely dry. Transfer the tuna to a medium bowl and flake with a fork. Add the remaining ingredients and stir until evenly combined. Taste and adjust seasoning, if necessary. Use immediately or store in a covered container in the refrigerator for up to three days.

THE BEST TUNA SALAD

The Best Tuna Salad image

While we love many kinds of tuna salad, this classic version tops them all. The crispy celery and red onion give add zest and crunch, while mayonnaise and touch of mustard marry it all together. The lemon juice is optional as it's not traditional, but we strongly recommend it to brighten up the flavors of the final dish.

Provided by Food Network Kitchen

Categories     main-dish

Time 15m

Yield 3 to 4 servings

Number Of Ingredients 8

Two 6-ounce cans white meat tuna packed in water, drained
2 tablespoons minced celery
2 tablespoons minced red onion, soaked in cold water for 5 minutes and drained
1 teaspoon minced flat-leaf parsley
1/3 cup prepared mayonnaise
1 tablespoon whole-grain mustard
Freshly ground black pepper
Freshly squeezed lemon juice (optional)

Steps:

  • In a small mixing bowl break up the tuna with a fork. Toss with the celery, onion and parsley. Add the mayonnaise, mustard and season with pepper, to taste. Stir to combine. Add lemon juice, to taste, if using.

RMG'S VIRTUOUS TUNA SALAD WITH ROMAINE AND FETA

Rmg's Virtuous Tuna Salad With Romaine and Feta image

This is my standard romaine salad with tuna. It's important to use good water-packed albacore tuna-other kinds won't be very good in this. What is really nice is REAL tuna, grilled medium-rare and sliced over this--but since I bring this to lunch every day medium-rare tuna isn't practical. I put the dressing contents in a small container and put in a plastic bag, then put the lettuce in a container, with a whole tomato (I pack a knife too); feta, onions and pecans are already sprinkled on the lettuce. I include a packet of Albacore and voila--I have an easy and VERY HEALTHY lunch ready to go with no required refrigeration or heating device! I've also used packets of salmon instead of the tuna.

Time 10m

Yield 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 10

6 -7 roma tomatoes, sliced
2 heads romaine lettuce, torn into bite-sized pieces
2 (6 ounce) cans albacore tuna in water
1/2 medium red onion, sliced thinly and soaked in water to remove bitterness
1/2 cup feta cheese
shelled pecans (not chopped) (optional)
kosher salt, to taste
fresh ground black pepper, to taste
red wine vinegar, to taste
good quality extra virgin olive oil, to taste

Steps:

  • Arrange lettuce on plate.
  • Arrange tomato slices, red onion slices, feta cheese and pecans (if desired) on lettuce.
  • Season with kosher salt and pepper to taste.
  • Drizzle with your desired proportion and amount of red wine vinegar and olive oil.

RICH TUNA SALAD, EVEN FOR THE TUNA HATERS :)

Rich Tuna Salad, Even for the Tuna Haters :) image

Years ago I kept craving tuna. Strange, because I am really not a tuna lover. Eventually I came across Bumble Bee albacore tuna (DOLPHIN SAFE, very important to me) packed in water. I bought 2 cans. I used a few normal ingredients and one or two not so mainstream ingredients. It's delicious, almost tastes "roasted" for lack of a better description :) I developed this, but I'm sure others have used something similar. It really satisfied my craving for tuna (must have been my body craving protein and omega 3 fatty acids) I just thought I'd share! Oh, also! The tuna mellows and tastes much better if allowed to sit in the fridge for several hours. Also good on crackers!

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 15m

Yield 3-4 sandwiches, 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 8

2 (6 ounce) cans bumble bee albacore tuna in water (other brands may be substituted, but I prefer Bumble Bee)
1 cup Best Foods Mayonnaise (again, a personal preference)
2 (4 1/4 ounce) cans of chopped black olives
1 small red onion
2 medium dill pickles
1 teaspoon fresh dill
1 teaspoon lemon pepper seasoning
1/4 teaspoon dried mustard

Steps:

  • Drain tuna, trying to get as much juice out as you can.
  • Feed the juice to your kitties :).
  • Place in a medium bowl.
  • Dice the red onion finely.
  • Dice the dill pickle finely.
  • Mix the above ingredients with the mayonnaise and mix as finely as possible.
  • Add the chopped olives, lemon pepper, fresh dill and dried mustard, mix well.
  • Serve on freshly baked Sourdough bread. Add lettuce and tomato, if desired.
  • For a low carb version, omit bread and dollop on a nice bed of lettuce (free food!) :).
