I made this up for my 5 dogs. I didn't like all the preservatives in commercial treats. And the all-natural ones on the market were just too darn expensive.

Number Of Ingredients 8

1 cup peanut butter
1/2 cup honey
1 egg
1 cup milk (not dry milk)
2 1/2 cups whole wheat flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup wheat germ

Steps:

  • In a separate bowl mix dry ingredients; set aside.
  • In a mixer or with hand held mixer blend first 4 wet ingredients.
  • Slowly add dry to wet and mix until a stiff dough forms.
  • Dust rolling surface with flour and roll dough to about 1/4 inch thick.
  • Cut into shapes with cookie cutter. I used a bone shape but you can use any shape.
  • Bake at 350° for 20 minutes.
  • Cool on rack and store in container.

Keen to cook for your four-legged friend? Make these peanut butter and banana bites for dogs. They last for up to a week and are sure to set tails wagging

Yield Makes 40-50 bites

Number Of Ingredients 6

100g buckwheat flour, plus extra for dusting
100g rolled oats
70g salt and xylitol-free smooth peanut butter
1 small banana, mashed
3 tbsp ground flaxseed
3 tbsp coconut oil, melted

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. Line a couple of baking trays with baking parchment. Stir together all of the ingredients in a mixing bowl until well combined. Add 4 tbsp water and stir until you have a dough.
  • Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and roll out until about 5mm thick. Cut into shapes using a 2cm cookie cutter, then place the biscuits on the prepared trays. Roll out the scraps and cut into shapes until you've used up all the dough.
  • Bake for 18-20 mins, then leave to cool on the baking tray. When completely cold, store in an airtight container. Will keep for up to one week.
