KID-PLEASING SPAGHETTI

Kid-Pleasing Spaghetti image

I wish I could claim credit for this recipe...but I've only helped make it for Farm Bureau suppers. With a cheese sauce and beef spaghetti layers, it has real kid appeal.-Vera Chalfant, Parker City, Indiana

EASY KID-PLEASING SPAGHETTI BOLOGNESE

Easy Kid-Pleasing Spaghetti Bolognese image

i always used to use the jars of sauce, but had to start making my own spaghetti bolognese sauce because my DH HATES tomato bits and other chunks of veggies that come in the jarred sauce. You probably have most of the ingredients already in the cupboard. Personally, I think this is better than any store bought sauce.

Time 17m

Yield 3 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 11

1 lb ground beef (92% lean)
1 (15 ounce) can Hunts tomato sauce
1 red onion, chopped
1 fresh garlic clove, crushed
3/4 teaspoon dried oregano
3/4 teaspoon dried basil
3 tablespoons brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon oil
6 ounces spaghetti

Steps:

  • Heat oil in a large saucepan.
  • In another large pot, boil water for spaghetti. When it comes to a rolling boil, add spaghetti and salt, and leave for approx 12 minutes.
  • Once the pan is hot, add the beef. Let it sear on both sides before breaking it up, this seals in more flavour.
  • Once beef is browned, drain excess fat from the pan, add the onion and garlic, and cook for another 3 minutes.
  • Add tomato sauce, sugar, oregano, basil, salt and pepper. Bring to the boil.
  • Reduce heat to low, and let simmer for another 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. Keep seasoning to taste.
  • Drain spaghetti, and rinse excess starch off it.
  • Mix spaghetti and sauce together.
  • Serve and enjoy with a hot slice of garlic cheese bread.

KID PLEASING CHICKEN & SPAGHETTI

Kid Pleasing Chicken & Spaghetti image

My mother-in-law gave me this recipe shortly after her son and I were married, almost 37 years ago. Back then, making it was definitely a labor of love because it took a LONG time! Now, with all those wonderful, convenient canned chicken products and frozen, chopped veggies, it's a really quick, hearty meal! My little...

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 large chicken, boiled and bones removed (or just buy already cooked, canned chicken : ))
1 1/2 stick butter, melted for sauteeing vegetables
1 bunch celery, chopped
1 large onion, chopped
3 large bell peppers, chopped
1 can(s) cream of chicken soup, undiluted
1 can(s) cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
1 pkg (12 oz.) spaghetti, cooked according to pkg. directions
grated cheese, your choice

Steps:

  • 1. Before giving the original directions, let me give you my updated directions...SIMPLIFY!!! I buy the LARGE canned chicken breast at Sam's Club for my chicken! I also buy chopped, frozen peppers and onion. I really like to get the 3 pepper blend (green, yellow and red peppers) with onion and only chop the fresh celery. You could also get the "seasoning blend" that has green pepper, onion and celery all mixed. I just like the extra color of the yellow and red! I also cook the spaghetti in chicken broth instead of water. My family loves cheese and I usually get a cheese blend of shredded cheese for the top. The Mexican jalapeno blend adds just a little "kick" to the dish!
  • 2. If you are going with the original recipe, boil the chicken in a large pot until cooked through. Remove chicken from pot (reserve stock to cook spaghetti in, if desired). Cool chicken then remove skin and bones. Chop meat.
  • 3. Chop all veggies. Place in large pan and sautee in butter until tender and onions are transparent.
  • 4. Stir cream of chicken and cream of mushroom soup into vegetables, mixing well.
  • 5. While veggies are sauteeing, cook spaghetti according to package direction, using chicken stock if desired in place of water.
  • 6. When veggies are done, stir in chicken, making sure it is well distributed throughout the vegetables.
  • 7. Drain the cooked spaghetti and mix well into chicken/veggies.
  • 8. Pour enite mixture into a buttered 11x17 casserole dish. Top with grated cheese. Bake at 350 degrees until cheese melts and dish is thoroughly heated through.

PIZZA CASSEROLE - EASY AND KID-PLEASING

Pizza Casserole - Easy and Kid-Pleasing image

I have a hard time getting my toddler to eat meat. He gobbles this up! It's also low-cost and you can double the recipe and freeze one for another day.

Time 46m

Yield 4 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 cups egg noodles
1 lb ground beef
1/3 cup onion, finely chopped
2 garlic cloves, pressed
1 teaspoon dried oregano
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 (10 3/4 ounce) can condensed tomato soup
1/3 cup water
1/2-1 cup mozzarella cheese, shredded

Steps:

  • Heat oven to 350.
  • Cook noodles according to package directions. Drain and reserve.
  • Meanwhile, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic over medium high heat for 6 minutes or until beef is no longer pink. Drain off excess liquid. Stir in oregano, salt, soup, 1/3 c water, and noodles. Remove from heat and add half the cheese. Spoon into 11x7 baking dish and sprinkle the remaining cheese over the top. Bake for 25-30 minutes until bubbly.
  • Allow to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving.
  • Note: since making this more often I tend to use Penzey's Pizza Seasoning instead of the spices, use extra cheese, and double all but the meat to freeze casseroles that are less "meaty.".

  • One-pot, 15-minute Pasta Limone. It certainly doesn’t hurt that this lemony pasta goes from pan to table in 15 minutes. For brownie points, you could even let your kid pick the noodle shape.
  • Bacon And Egg Fried Rice. You’ll love using up leftover rice, they’ll love the crispy bits of bacon and salty sauce. (If you’re all out of eggs, skip ’em.)
  • Skillet Pizza. If you have flour, cheese and a can of tomatoes, you have the makings of the ultimate kid-pleasing dinner. Any toppings (or no toppings) will do.
  • Chicken Tinga Tacos. This one relies on the ultra-convenient rotisserie chicken, but any leftover shredded chicken can replace it. Set the toppings out for a build-your-own taco night and everyone can choose their favorites.
  • One-pan Spaghetti And Meatballs. It’s a classic for a reason, right? Use jarred marinara sauce and dig that ground beef out of the back of your freezer—dinner’s on in 30 minutes.
