JAY'S SPICY SLOW COOKER TURKEY CHILI
I looked at the top 5 recipes on this site, combined my favorite ingredients from each, plus a few of my own (Sriracha®/adobe sauce) and...ta-da! A meaty, spicy, flavorful, turkey chili! You can quickly cook up the turkey and combine ingredients in slow cooker, throw in the fridge, and take it out to cook on low before you go to work - works perfectly, easy peasy! All the guys love it for football games, tailgating, and just plain old cold weather. From my table to yours, hope you enjoy! Serve with sour cream and cheese to your liking.

SLOWCOOKER TURKEY CHILI
I came up with this chili one day when ground turkey was on sale. I soak & cook most of my own beans now. You can use canned beans, just make sure you drain & rinse them before adding them to the crockpot. Adjust the seasoning to your own taste. My family is not big on spicy chili, so I always have some chipotle chili on the table to add to mine. I serve this with my Buttermilk Cornmeal Muffins, Recipe #364044, and a bowl of coleslaw. Make sure to have some grated cheese & a dish of sour cream on the table, so everyone can garnish their own dish as they choose. .

SLOW COOKER TURKEY CHILI
Cocoa powder may seem a bit out of place in chili, but it has two jobs in this mole-inspired version: It adds depth of flavor and helps thicken the sauce. We suggest serving the chili with tortilla chips, but it would also be great with cornbread.

Steps:
- Heat the oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tomato paste, chili powder, cumin and cayenne and cook, stirring, until the oil is brick-red and the mixture is dry, about 2 minutes. Add the ground turkey and 1 teaspoon salt and cook, stirring and breaking up into smaller pieces, until the mixture is combined (the turkey doesn't need to be cooked all the way through at this point). Transfer the mixture to the insert of a 6-quart slow cooker.
- Add the tomatoes, chicken broth, cocoa powder, vinegar, oregano and 1 teaspoon salt to the skillet over medium-high heat and bring to a simmer, whisking. Cook for about 2 minutes. Add the tomato mixture, beans, onions, crushed tortilla chips and garlic to the insert and give the mixture a good stir. Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.
- Add chicken broth to thin the chili, if necessary. Season with salt. Serve with scallions, Cheddar, sour cream, pickled jalapeno and tortilla chips.
SPICY TURKEY CHILI
"This peppery chili is not for the faint of stomach," assures Margaret Shauers of Great Bend, Kansas. "It's saucy and satisfying---according to my daughter, it's the one thing she can taste when she has a cold. It also freezes very well," adds Margaret.
