11 BEST CHURCH ANNIVERSARY IDEAS, PRAYER, AND THEMES

A Special Evening Service. Sunday evening services used to be the norm but are not so common now. If your church chooses to have a special evening “service” to celebrate an anniversary, it might be fun to make it a dressy or semi-formal affair with special music and a guest speaker.
Sunrise Service. A sunrise service can be very meaningful but also short and to the point. When living near the beach we would just all meet there for music and prayer.
Mass Outreach Day. Involving the neighborhood or town in the church’s anniversary can be a great way to get to know the folks living around your church.
Party (or Potluck) A party? At church? When I was growing up the only parties at church where spelled p-o-t-l-u-c-k. Times have changed and parties at church are fairly common.
Concert. Chances are there is musical talent in your church. Announcing an anniversary concert might be just the event to attract lots of friends and family to help celebrate.

Make some anniversary celebrations a big deal. Every year on the anniversary weekend, we do some something special, but it isn’t usually the focus of the service.
Be clear about your purpose and goals. Our goals for the 25th celebration were to give God glory for what He has done among us, to build a memory, and to celebrate servants.
Start planning 6-8 months ahead. First thing, Pastor, do some prayerful thinking: What’s your vision for the anniversary celebration? What leaders will you need for the areas of the event?
Keep it in your own building, not off-site. We’ve done big anniversary celebrations off-site, but for the 25th anniversary, we decided to use our own building.
Squeeze into fewer services. We normally have three services on Sunday and one on Saturday at the Oceanside location, and two on Sunday at the Carlsbad location.
