BLUEBERRY INFUSED GIN

Blueberry Infused Gin image

This recipe is courtesy of Josh Sullivan of Post Prohibition, a Baltimore-based movement that celebrates the craft of the cocktail. Josh enjoys creating well-balanced, artistic cocktails often featuring fresh, seasonal ingredients. If you have enjoyed this recipe, be sure to visit Post Prohibition for more cocktail inspiration.

Provided by Brandon Matzek

Number Of Ingredients 2

3 cups organic blueberries
1 750 ml bottle of Plymouth Gin

Steps:

  • Give blueberries a good rinse, then add to a large pot (no need to dry them). Warm blueberries over medium heat, stirring often. Cook blueberries until they release a decent amount of liquid.* Remove from heat and let cool to room temperature.
  • Add blueberries with juices to a large, airtight jar. Pour in entire bottle of gin. Seal the lid and store in a cool, dark spot for 5 days. Be sure to give the jar a good shake at least once a day.
  • After 5 days, strain infused gin through a fine mesh basket strainer into a clean bottle or container. The more solid bits you strain out, the longer the gin will last! Store in the refrigerator.

BLUEBERRY GIN AND COCKTAIL

Blueberry Gin and Cocktail image

Found this on a political site, she was going to celebrate the health care vote with it and had to have the recipe! It takes about a week to dissolve the berries but can be used after two or 3 days. Prep time includes this

Provided by MarraMamba

Categories     Beverages

Time P7DT30m

Yield 1 bottle gin, 1 drink, 1 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 6

1 (8 ounce) box blueberries, fresh
750 ml gin, whichever one you prefer
1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise
1 cup water
3 teaspoons sugar
1/2 lemon

Steps:

  • Throw the blueberries and gin in a mason jar, and let this sit for about a week (it actually only takes two to three days for the blueberries to dissolve, so it just depends on how blue you want it).
  • Boil the vanilla bean and sugar in a cup of water for about 1/2 hour or so, and stick in the fridge to cool (or not, it can be hot if it your pouring it on ice).
  • Squeeze 1/2 a lemon in a glass of ice, pour in vanilla syrup to taste, pour in gin. Shake (I like to shake mine in a martini shaker), garnish with a couple blueberries, and drink!

BLUEBERRY GIN

Blueberry Gin image

I don't usually experiment with drinks around Christmas. It is usually just wine and champagne served, but I thought I would play around and have some fun this year. I actually got the idea from a friend, when we lived in Spain. They had a party one night and they must have had 20-30 different flavoured bottles of vodka, everything from fruity ones to chili, even jalapeno. All of them they had made themselves by adding the flavoured ingredient, I thought it was so novel and it was interesting tasting all the different flavours, well maybe I didn't try them all, I would have been on the floor if I had. Any way this is a recipe for blueberry flavoured gin, I have not made this before so I can not vouch for how good it will turn out. I am just trying it for something different this year.

Time P21DT3m

Yield 1 bottle

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 (250 -300 g) package blueberries
6 tablespoons sugar
700 ml gin

Steps:

  • In a large bottle pour gin, add blueberries and sugar, shake well and refrigerate for 2 weeks or up to 2 months.
  • Shake the bottle from time to time, you will see a marvellous rich colour developing as the days go by.
  • To serve: Place a shot of gin in a blender with crushed ice, blend, pour into chilled glasses and top with tonic and garnish with a sprig of mint. Alternatively, serve alone in a small chilled glass with ice cube.
  • I will post a photo once my gin is done as I said I only put it in the fridge a few days ago so I will have to be patient until it is done.
