CORN DOGS

I made up this recipe many years ago, because I loved the corn dogs you buy at carnivals but could not find a recipe for them. Great served with mustard.

HOMEMADE GLUTEN FREE CORN DOGS

Homemade Gluten Free Corn Dogs image

If you'd like to make this recipe with whole wheat flour then omit the gluten free flour mix and gelatin and replace it with 3/4 cups whole wheat flour. Adapted from [On a Stick!|http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1594744890?ie=UTF8&creativeASIN=1594744890&tag=deliciorgan03-20].

Number Of Ingredients 13

1 qt. peanut oil or lard
3/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons gluten free flour mix (I used Bob's Red Mill)
3/4 cup cornmeal
3/4 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/8 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoons sea salt
1 tablespoon light honey
3/4 cup whole milk
1 large egg
10 hot dogs (nitrate free preferred)
10 wooden skewers
Ketchup and mustard for dipping

Steps:

  • Pour oil in a large heavy pot and heat over medium-high heat. Whisk flour mix, cornmeal, gelatin, baking powder, baking soda, salt and pepper in a medium bowl. Add honey, milk and egg and whisk until combined.
  • Thread hot dogs onto skewers. When oil reaches 360ºF dip each hot dog into batter, rolling until fully coated and quickly drop entire stick into oil. Fry, two at a time, until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes. Drain on paper towels. Repeat for remaining corn dogs. Serve warm.

HOMEMADE DOG FOOD

Homemade Dog Food image

I have made dog food ever since my dogs were puppies - 4 years now! They are very healthy and have never had any problems. You can also add it to their kibble. They love it! My dogs are large breed so they get 2 cups in the a.m. and p.m.

CORN DOGS

Corn Dogs image

Here's a good basic recipe for corn dogs. I'm looking forward to trying some of the suggestions from reviews as to adding dry mustard or other seasonings to the batter.

Categories     Lunch/Snacks

Time 20m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

3/4 cup yellow cornmeal
3/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 egg, beaten
2/3 cup milk
6 -8 small wooden sticks
6 -8 hot dogs
oil, for deep-fat frying

Steps:

  • Combine cornmeal, flour, baking powder, salt and egg; mix well.
  • Stir in milk to make a thick batter; place in a tall narrow glass. Let stand 4 minutes to thicken.
  • Meanwhile, heat oil to 375 degrees F.
  • Pat hot dogs dry. Dust with flour if desired. Insert sticks in hot dogs; dip into batter. Let excess drip off.
  • Fry until golden brown, about 5-6 minutes. (I've found it works best to fry them one at a time. Unless you have a fryer that is big enough to handle more without them touching.).
  • Drain on paper towel.

A to-die-for switch from commercial corn dogs, made with pre-packaged bratwurst (any flavor, or all) fresh dough (home made is best), corn meal, and garlic.

Provided by Pamela Joyce Ochsner

Categories     Yeast Breads

Time 2h30m

Yield 6-8 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 5

2 loaves frozen white bread dough (or 1 recipe of white bread dough or 1 recipe of wheat bread dough) or 2 loaves frozen whole wheat bread dough (or 1 recipe of white bread dough or 1 recipe of wheat bread dough)
4 lbs commercial bratwursts
1 cup cornmeal

  • Roll again in corn meal on counter, adding more cornmeal sprinkle as needed to coat brats.
  • Arrange double the width of each corn dog on greased cookie sheets. Cover with warm damp towels; place in warm place and let rise until doubled in bulk.
  • Bake at 375 for 30 minutes; brush with butter. Serve.
