This is my huband's grandma's own stroganoff recipe. It's been passed down two generations to me and it's an easy and pleasing recipe that everyone I've made it for has loved.

Ingredients

3 lbs cubed round steaks
1 -1 1/2 lb egg noodles (or rice)
2 (10 3/4 ounce) cans mushroom soup
1 cup fresh mushrooms, sliced
1.5 (1 1/4 ounce) envelopes onion soup mix
3/4 cup water

Steps:

Preheat oven to 350 degree.
Brown the cubed meat.
Mix rest of ingredients together with it in an oven safe pan.
Place in oven for 1 ½ hours.
After 1 hour taste juice. If you add more water you may want to add a little more onion soup.
Serve over rice or egg noodles.

Just like grandma used to make. Very little work goes into this homemade beef stew but it was always made with love. Serve with saltine crackers or yeast rolls.

Ingredients

2 pounds cubed beef stew meat, trimmed
6 cups water
1 large yellow onion, cut into large chunks
salt and ground black pepper to taste
6 large carrots, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
5 red potatoes, cut into small chunks
5 stalks celery, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
1 (15 ounce) can green beans, drained
1 (15 ounce) can corn, drained
1 (15 ounce) can sweet peas, drained
1 (14.5 ounce) can crushed tomatoes
1 (6.5 ounce) can tomato sauce

Steps:

Place stew meat, water, onion, salt, and pepper in a large stockpot. Cook over medium heat until meat is fork-tender, about 45 minutes. Do not drain.
Add carrots and potatoes to the stew, stir, and cook over medium heat for 20 minutes. Stir in celery, green beans, corn, peas, crushed tomatoes, and tomato sauce. Reduce heat to medium-low and let cook for about 1 hour.

My great-grandfather immigrated from Russia in the 1880's. This is the way he always made beef stroganoff and the way my mother, whom he raised, made it. No icky canned soup for us!

Ingredients

1 lb filet mignon or 1 lb rib eye
1 -2 tablespoon butter
1 lb fresh mushrooms, sliced
1/2 cup cooking sherry
1 cup beef stock or 1 cup beef bouillon
2 tablespoons hot water
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1 teaspoon black pepper
2 cups wide egg noodles, cooked
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup slivered almonds

Steps:

Closely trim steak and slice into thin slices.
Pepper meat, then brown in butter in skillet.
When meat is browned, add sherry and stock or bouillon, bring to a boil and immediately reduce to simmer.
Add mushrooms and cook until mushrooms are done, but not shriveled.
Dissolve cornstarch in hot water and add to broth, stirring until broth thickens*slightly*.
To serve, place seperate bowls of noodles, meat and sauce, sour cream, and slivered almonds on table (you can garnish sour cream with chopped parsley if desired).
To eat, layer first noodles, then beef, then sour cream and sprinkle with almonds.
