SOUTHERN FRIED CABBAGE WITH SAUSAGE

Southern Fried Cabbage With Sausage image

This is a family favorite cabbage recipe. The cabbage is cooked down with tomatoes, seasonings and smoked sausage for a hearty and delicious meal-in-itself. Serve with cornbread.

Provided by MSippigirl

Categories     One Dish Meal

Time 40m

Yield 6 serving(s)

Number Of Ingredients 9

3 tablespoons butter or 3 tablespoons bacon fat
1 small green cabbage, chopped
1/2 cup onion, chopped
1/2-3/4 lb smoked sausage, sliced (I like Conecuh, Original)
1 (15 ounce) can diced tomatoes, undrained (I like Hunt's Petite Diced)
1/4 teaspoon garlic salt, to taste
1/4 teaspoon Tony Chachere's Seasoning, to taste (optional)
salt, to taste
black pepper, to taste

Steps:

  • Chop/slice the sausage, cabbage, and onion.
  • In a large non-stick skillet, pre-cook the sliced sausage about 3 minutes to render some of the fat out. Remove sausage from skillet and drain on paper towels if needed. Set aside. Wipe the skillet clean.
  • In the same skillet, melt the butter. Add cabbage and onion and cook and stir on medium-high for about 5 minutes, until cabbage starts to wilt.
  • Add remaining ingredients, and the sausage.
  • Cover the skillet and cook for about 10 minutes.
  • Uncover, and finish cooking until cabbage is desired tenderness and most of liquid has been reduced.

FRIED CABBAGE WITH TURKEY

I hate cooking after work! This can be a great quickie side or main dish depending on your appetite and/or level of laziness. It's also a bit healthier, as I used smoked turkey leg instead of pork. Hope you enjoy!

FRIED CABBAGE & SAUSAGE

Fried Cabbage & Sausage image

Love fried foods but trying to eat healthy so I thought I would try to fry some cabbage without grease but still wanted the fried in grease flavor. The following recipe is what I came up with. Husband thought it was fried in grease.

Provided by Dana Jenkins

Categories     Turkey

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 medium head of cabbage
1 pkg turkey sausage
can(s) olive oil cooking spray
2 tsp salt
2 tsp vegetable seasoning
1 tsp fresh ground pepper
1 Tbsp low sodium soy sauce

Steps:

  • 1. Spray generously a non-stick skillet with olive oil cooking spray.
  • 2. Slice package of turkey sausage in half then slice into thirds lengthwise.
  • 3. Place sausage into medium heated skillet. Cook until carmelized on both sides but not burnt. Remove sausage from skillet and place in glass bowl. (do not place on paper towels). Spray skillet with additional cooking spray. Take wooden spoon and loosen any browning on bottom of skillet.
  • 4. While sausage is cooking, wash and shred cabbage.
  • 5. Place cabbage in heated skillet with browning and stir to coat cabbage with browning and cooking spray. After cabbage is coated and starts to wilt, turn heat down to low. Stir occasionally.
  • 6. Dice one half of the Sausage and put in skillet with cabbage before cabbage wilts. Add one half of the spices. Let simmer for 20 minute or until the consistency is the way you like. I like mine crunchy, my husband likes his soft. Add the other half of the spices, stir. Add slices to the top and enjoy.

THE BEST PAN FRIED CABBAGE AND SAUSAGE

The Best Pan Fried Cabbage and Sausage image

The Best Pan Fried Cabbage and Sausage Recipe Ever is the perfect easy way to celebrate Saint Patricks Day with a one pot cabbage and sausage dinner skillet that is low carb and keto diet compatible, family tested and approved, and goes from the fridge to the table in under 20 minutes in just one pot!

Provided by Courtney ODell

Categories     Main Dishes

Time 35m

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 tbsp butter
1 white onion, diced
1/4 cup garlic, whole or crushed cloves, skin off
1 cabbage, (use half if very large cabbage - whole head if small) sliced into thin strips
1 tsp salt, celtic sea salt preferred
1 lb polska kielbasa, sliced into thin rounds

Steps:

  • Heat butter in large pan on medium-high heat until melted and foamy.
  • Add diced onions to pan, cook until soft and transparent, about 4 minutes. Stir to prevent sticking or burning.
  • Add garlic to pan, cook until fragrant and soft, about 3 minutes.
  • Add cabbage to pan and toss well to coat in butter.
  • Generously season with salt.
  • Let cabbage reduce by half, about 10 minutes, stirring occasionally as it cooks down to prevent burning and allow it to cook evenly.
  • Slice smoked polska kielbasa into thin rounds and add to pan with cabbage and onions.
  • When cabbage has lost much of it's volume and started to turn shiny, slightly translucent, and has lovely browned bits - and polska kielbasa has browned slightly (smoked kielbasa has been cooked already, so you're just adding some browning and flavor to it), it is ready to serve.
  • Remove from heat and plate with your favorite meat, casserole, fish, or other main dish!

SPICY GROUND TURKEY & CABBAGE STIR FRY MEAL PREP

Spicy Ground Turkey & Cabbage Stir Fry Meal Prep image

This Spicy Ground Turkey & Cabbage Stir Fry Meal Prep is a flavorful mix of ground turkey, ginger, garlic, chili sauce, fresh cabbage, and carrots served over your favorite kind of rice for the easiest meal prep I bet you've never tried!

Provided by Danielle

Categories     Lunches

Time 50m

Number Of Ingredients 14

1/3 cup soy sauce (or liquid coconut aminos)
1 tablespoon toasted or untoasted sesame oil
1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce (I use Huy Fong Chili Garlic Sauce (affiliate link!))
1 tablespoon sriracha hot sauce
1 tablespoon water
1 1/2 cups uncooked rice of choice + cooking liquid
1/2 tablespoon olive or avocado oil
1 pound ground turkey meat (I use 93% lean)
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 tablespoon minced fresh garlic
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
1 small head of cabbage, cut into fine shreds (OR a bag of coleslaw mix - SEE NOTE)
2 small-medium carrots, cut into 1 inch matchsticks (julienne)
salt/pepper for seasoning

Steps:

  • Combine soy sauce, sesame oil, chili garlic sauce, sriracha, and water in a mason jar with a lid and shake until well mixed. You can also whisk ingredients together in a small bowl. If serving with rice, start that now! I use my Instant Pot to cook white jasmine rice in broth while I cook this meal on the stovetop.
  • In a large deep non-stick skillet or Dutch Oven, heat oil over medium heat. When hot, add ground turkey meat. Add onion powder, and season with salt and pepper. Use a wooden spoon or spatula to break the meat into small pieces as it cooks. Cook the meat for about 5 minutes or until cooked through, stirring occasionally.
  • Add garlic and ginger to the pan and stir for about 20 seconds until dispersed. Next, add shredded cabbage and carrots. Give the sauce a quick stir, add it to the pan and stir thoroughly. As the mixture cooks, the cabbage will reduce to about half its size. Reduce heat to low and cook for another 5-10 minutes, depending on how wilty you like your cabbage.
  • Remove from heat and serve over rice - top with additional sriracha or cilantro if you want. If meal prepping, portion rice and cabbage into 4 airtight meal prep containers and store in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.

Provided by Dawn | Girl Heart Food

Time 25m

Number Of Ingredients 16

3 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon sriracha
2 teaspoons sesame oil
1 teaspoon fish sauce
1.5 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 pound ground turkey
1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
4 cloves garlic (minced)
1 cup small dice bell pepper (about 1 bell pepper)
2 cups thinly shredded green cabbage
1 cup carrot (peeled and shredded (about 1 large carrot))
4 cups cool COOKED rice (I like Jasmine or medium-grain white rice, but use whatever variety you enjoy best)
Chopped green onion (garnish to taste)
Sliced chili pepper (garnish to taste)
Chili oil (garnish to taste)
Fried egg

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, mix together the soy sauce with sriracha, sesame oil and fish sauce. Set aside.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a wok over medium heat.
  • Add the ground turkey to the wok and cook, breaking into crumbles and stirring often, until it's fully cooked through, about 8 to 10 minutes.
  • Turn up heat to medium-high. To ground turkey, add ginger, garlic, bell pepper, cabbage and carrot. Cook, stirring often, for about 2 minutes until the veggies start to soften a tad. They should still have some crispness.
  • Ensure any clumps of rice are broken up before adding to the wok. Then add the rice to the wok along with the reserved soy sauce mixture. Stir and cook until the rice has heated through.
  • Transfer the fried rice to a serving dish. Garnish, if desired, with any of the garnish ideas. Serve and enjoy! Recipe yields about 6 decent side servings or 4 main dish servings.

FRIED CABBAGE WITH KIELBASA

Fried Cabbage with Kielbasa image

This recipe makes an affordable and nutritious weeknight supper that can easily serve four or more.

Provided by Mary's Nest

Categories     Main Course

Time 20m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 tbsp Butter
1 tbsp Bacon grease, optional (If you do not use bacon grease, increase the butter to 2 tablespoons.)
12-16 ounces Kielbasa or another sausage, sliced into half-moon bite-sized pieces
1/2 tsp Salt
1/4 tsp Black pepper
1/4 tsp Red pepper flakes, optional
1 large Green cabbage, chopped into bite-sized pieces (The cabbage used in this recipe was approximately 2 1/2 pounds.)
4 slices Crisp cooked bacon, optional
1 tbsp Whole grain mustard
1 tbsp Apple cider vinegar

Steps:

  • Place butter and bacon grease (if using) in a shallow Dutch oven or sauté pan and melt over medium heat.
  • Add Kielbasa and cook until browned. Approximately 6 minutes.
  • Add salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir well.
  • Add cabbage and stir well to coat the cabbage with the melted fat. Also mix in the Kielbasa with the cabbage. (See video.)
  • If you are adding bacon and you like your bacon to soften, you can add it now along with the cabbage. If you want the bacon to maintain its texture, you'll want to add it later.
  • Cover the Dutch oven or sauté pan and turn the heat down to low. Simmer until the cabbage is tender. Approximately 8 minutes.
  • Once the cabbage is tender, add the bacon now if you are using it and didn't add it earlier. Stir well and allow the bacon to warm through.
  • Once the bacon is warmed through (approximately 30 seconds to one minute), turn off the heat and add the mustard and vinegar. Stir well and serve hot.
  • Refrigerate leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days.
  • To freeze leftovers, place them in an airtight container. If you are only freezing the fried cabbage it can maintain its best quality for 10-12 months. If you are freezing fried cabbage with Kielbasa, it will maintain its best quality for 1-2 months.
