  • Benten Nakamise Dori Street. You can’t miss Benten Nakamise Dori Street because it’s the first street you will come across as soon as you arrive at Enoshima.
  • Enoshima Shrine. Again, you can’t really miss the lovely Enoshima shrine, down Benten Nakamise Dori Shopping Street. There’s a beautiful red torii at the entrance and the higher you go, the better the view!
  • Samuel Cooking Garden and the Sea Candle. Opening time: 9 am to 8 pm. Entrance fees: 200 yen for the garden only and 500 yen for the garden and the Sea Candle.
  • Love Bell. Let’s keep on discovering Enoshima and visit this romantic spot. This Love Bell is also called Bell of Ryuren (literally the bell of the dragon’s love).
  • Iwaya Caves. Opening time: from 9 am to 4 pm in winter, at 5 pm the rest of the time. Entrance fee: 500 yen. The Iwaya caves were carved by the erosion of the sea.
  • Boat Trip From Bentenmaru. Once you’re at the southwest coast of Enoshima to visit the Iwaya caves, I highly recommend you take a boat back to the main island.
  • Enoshima Island Spa. Opening time: from 10 am to 10 pm between March and November / from 11 am to 9 pm between December and February. Entrance fee: 2750 yen for a full day access.
  • Enoshima Katase Beach. There’s actually no sand beach on Enoshima so when we refer to Enoshima Katase Beach, it’s actually the beach just in front of Enoshima, on the main island.
  • Try Shirasu-don (Enoshima Local Food) On the island of Enoshima, the main culinary specialties are seafood-based. And the most popular local food is without a doubt Shirasu-don.
  • Enoshima Aquarium. Enoshima Aquarium is actually one of the most popular attractions in this area. But we left it at the end for a reason. At Sugoii Japan, we strive to be a responsible media so we decided that we will not recommend attractions that use animals for financial benefits.

12 THINGS TO DO ON ENOSHIMA ISLAND - JAPAN TALK

From japan-talk.com
  • Enoshima Shrine. There are three different shrines on Enoshima that are collectively known as Enoshima Shrine. They are all dedicated to the goddess Benzaiten.
  • Shonan Beach. There's a wide, long surfing beach on both sides of the bridge to Enoshima known as Shonan. It's party central in summer. It's a great place for a walk the rest of the year.
  • Southern Coast. The southern coast of Enoshima is rough terrain with steep sea cliffs that are continuously pounded by large waves. Parts of the coastline are accessible where the cliffs fall sharply to flat rocks.
  • Iwaya Caves. Two natural caves that have been engineered to be more comfortable for tourists on the southern coast of the island. The caves are popular because they are featured in Enoshima's creation myth.
  • Enoshima Island Spa (Enospa) A large onsen resort with indoor and outdoor pools sticking out of the cliffs of the island just beside the bridge. Offers both gender segregated (nude) bathing and mixed gender pools that require a bathing suit.
  • Enoshima Bridge. A bridge that proves the old maxim that the journey is half the fun of travel. The Enoshima Bridge spans 600 meters. It's constructed on part of the sea that naturally exposed the land at low tide.
  • Enoshima Sea Candle. A mobile phone tower constructed like a lighthouse (it's 60 meters tall). A popular place to view the bay and Mount Fuji. Located in a small botanical garden called Samuel Cocking Garden.
  • Sailing. Enoshima is on Sagami Bay. It has excellent wind. It was the site of the sailing events of the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. A large yacht harbor was built for this event at considerable cost.
  • Windsurfing & Kitesurfing. The sea around Enoshima (Sagami Bay) is blessed with reliable wind for much of the year. Windsurfers and kitesurfers are a common sight here.
  • Enoshima Aquarium. An aquarium complex designed to reflect the sea life in Sagami Bay. Just off Shonan Beach on the mainland. Features popular animals such as dolphins, penguins and seals.
