DEEP DISH PIZZA RECIPE BY TASTY

Deep Dish Pizza Recipe by Tasty image

Great news: You don't have to travel to Chicago to eat doughy, cheesy deep dish pizza because now, you can make it right in your kitchen. The most time-consuming part of this recipe is making the dough, but you can prepare it up to a month in advance and freeze it for later. Bake the dough in a deep dish pan covered with homemade tomato sauce, sausage, and cheese until it's golden-brown and bubbling.

Provided by Pierce Abernathy

Categories     Dinner

Time 25m

Yield 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 19

½ lb italian sausage
10 slices mozzarella cheese
½ cup freshly grated parmesan cheese
1 ¼ cups water, warm
2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
2 teaspoons sugar
3 ¼ cups flour
¾ cup cornmeal
2 teaspoons salt
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 tablespoon olive oil
2 tablespoons butter
1 onion, diced
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon crushed red pepper
1 teaspoon dried oregano
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 teaspoon sugar
30 oz crushed tomato with basil, 1 can

Steps:

  • For the pizza sauce, melt the butter in a small saucepan and add the onion, salt, red pepper flakes, and oregano, and sauté until golden brown.
  • Add the garlic, sugar, and crushed tomatoes, and simmer for roughly 20 minutes or until sauce thickens.
  • For the dough, combine the active dry yeast, sugar, and warm water together and let sit for one minute.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, cornmeal, and salt.
  • Add the yeast mixture and butter into the dry ingredients and stir until dough forms.
  • Bring dough to floured surface and knead until dough forms into a ball.
  • Move dough to large bowl drizzled with olive oil. Coat dough in oil and cover. Let rest for 1 hour.
  • Remove dough and bring onto floured surface.
  • Cut dough in half and begin working dough out, ensuring that it is at least 2 inches (5 cm) wider than your deep dish pan.
  • Double wrap the remaining dough with plastic wrap and place in a resealable freezer bag. Freeze for up to a month.
  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (215°C).
  • Bring your dough into your oiled and floured deep dish pan.
  • Using your hands press dough into sides of your dish making it as even as possible.
  • Lay slices of mozzarella across the dough, covering the entire bottom.
  • Add pieces of uncased italian sausage on top of the mozzarella and top with tomato sauce.
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until crust starts to lightly brown and the cheese is melted.
  • Garnish with parmesan, cut and serve.
  • Enjoy!

SLOW-COOKER DEEP-DISH PIZZA

Slow-Cooker Deep-Dish Pizza image

Delicious, deep dish-style pizza made in the slow cooker? Yes, it's true! Ideal for any time you'd rather keep your oven off, this clever recipe easily can be tailored to suit your topping tastes.

Provided by Betty Crocker Kitchens

Categories     Entree

Time 2h10m

Yield 4

Number Of Ingredients 6

1/2 lb bulk mild Italian sausage
1 can (11 oz) refrigerated Pillsbury™ Thin Crust Pizza Crust
1/2 cup pizza sauce
1/4 cup chopped red or green bell pepper
1/4 cup chopped onion
1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese (6 oz)

Steps:

  • Spray 6-quart oval slow cooker with cooking spray. In 10-inch nonstick skillet, cook sausage over medium-high heat 5 to 7 minutes, stirring frequently, until no longer pink; drain.
  • Unroll pizza dough; fold in half crosswise. Place pizza dough in slow cooker; press in bottom and 1 inch up sides. Spread pizza sauce evenly over dough to within 1/2 inch of edges. Top with half each of the cooked sausage, bell pepper, onion and cheese. Repeat with remaining sausage, bell pepper, onion and cheese.
  • Place folded, clean dish towel under cover of cooker. This will prevent condensation from dripping down onto pizza. Cover; cook on High heat setting 45 minutes. Carefully remove slow cooker's ceramic insert, leaving cover on, and rotate insert 180°. Continue to cook on High heat setting 30 to 60 minutes or until crust edges are deep golden brown, cheese is melted, and thermometer inserted in center reads 165°F.
  • Loosen edges of pizza with metal spatula or small knife; carefully remove from slow cooker to cutting board. Cut and serve.

CROCKPOT DEEP DISH PIZZA

Crockpot Deep Dish Pizza image

I must say I was pleasantly surprised when this turned out as good as it did. I originally saw this somewhere on Pinterest and it was on my phone but when I went back to find the recipe it was gone. So, I just added my own toppings and tried to remember what the recipe said. Anyway, it turned out great! --The amounts are all...

Provided by Kimberly Biegacki

Categories     Pizza

Time 2h20m

Number Of Ingredients 9

1 can(s) refrigerated pizza crust dough or your own
1/2 jar(s) pizza sauce, spicy (or a little more as we like alot of sauce)
10-12 slice pepperoni, sliced (we slice our own so it's thicker)
9 -12 oz italian sausage, hot --- cooked
1/2 bag(s) monterey jack cheese with jalapeno pepper, shredded
1/2 bag(s) mozzarella cheese, shredded
1/2 bag(s) spinach, fresh
1 can(s) black olives, sliced (small)
pam, spray olive oil

Steps:

  • 1. Spray your crockpot generously with Pam olive oil. Then place your dough down in the bottom of pan. Press it down and make it as even as possible. Add your pizza sauce (don't go to the edges --- leave a border of dough as you would a normal pizza), sausage, pepperoni. Add your shredded Monterey jack cheese to your liking.
  • 2. Next add as much spinach as you like...I added about a 1/2 bag on top and then put the mozzarella cheese next. Don't forget your olives is adding them. Doesn't matter that the spinach is not pressed down as it will cook down over time.
  • 3. Now cook on high for 2 to 2 1/2 hrs...I would check yours as each crockpot has a different temp for high and mine cooked up at about 2 hrs and 15 minutes. I removed the pizza with two rubber spatulas so I wouldn't scratch my crockpot.
  • 4. Let it rest for about 5 minutes or so and then slice.
  • 5. Here are the slices. (Just a side note: My husband was upset that he saw I put spinach on top but when took a bite of the pizza he loved it. Ate the spinach and all.) --I just love when that happens. hehe

SLOW-COOKER DEEP-DISH PIZZA

Slow-Cooker Deep-Dish Pizza image

Provided by Jeff Mauro, host of Sandwich King

Categories     main-dish

Time 2h15m

Yield 1 pizza

Number Of Ingredients 8

Nonstick cooking spray, for spraying the slow cooker insert
8 ounces prepared pizza dough (if refrigerated, let it rise in an oiled bowl for 2 hours)
8 ounces sliced (not grated) mozzarella cheese
8 ounces thinly sliced pepperoni, preferably sandwich size
1/2 cup store-bought pizza sauce
1 tablespoon grated Parmesan
6 fresh basil leaves, cut into chiffonade
Pinch crushed red pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat the slow cooker on high for 20 minutes. Spray the insert with nonstick cooking spray.
  • On a clean surface, stretch, roll and form the dough into roughly the same shape as the slow cooker insert. The goal is a nice, thin crust. Place in the cooker and spread out if necessary. Cook on high, UNCOVERED, for 1 hour without toppings.
  • Shingle the mozzarella slices over the dough and up the sides about 1 inch above the crust. Overlap each slice, moving in a clockwise circle until the perimeter is covered. Place 1 more slice to cover the empty spot in the middle, if necessary. Shingle a layer of pepperoni the same way you did the cheese. Follow with a small layer of the pizza sauce. Sprinkle with the Parmesan.
  • Cook on high until the cheesy crust is dark and caramelized and the bottom is firm and brown, another hour. Carefully take out of the slow cooker using a spatula. Garnish with the basil and crushed red pepper.

CROCK POT PIZZA SLIDERS

Crock Pot Pizza Sliders image

These Crock Pot Pizza Sliders are a crowd favorite! Better yet, they are super easy to throw together and cook quickly. Win win!

Provided by Aunt Lou

Categories     Main

Time 1h36m

Number Of Ingredients 8

12 Hawaiian rolls (kept together and not broke apart)
1/4 cup pizza sauce ((If you like more sauce, go ahead and use more.))
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (divided)
1/2 teaspoon Italian Seasoning (divided)
1 cup Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
Your favorite pizza toppings
1/4 cup Butter (melted)
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt

Steps:

  • Place all the rolls on a large cutting board and take a large knife to slice all your rolls in half at the same time (do not break them apart) and gently remove the tops as one big piece.
  • Spread your pizza sauce evenly on the bottom halves of the rolls that are still all connected.
  • Sprinkle 1/4 teaspoon of your garlic powder and 1/4 teaspoon of Italian seasoning evenly across the top of the sauce.
  • Sprinkle your Mozzarella cheese evenly over the sauce and seasonings.
  • Evenly spread desired pizza toppings on top of cheese.
  • As one piece, place the top halves of your rolls back on top of the bottom part of the sliders.
  • Pick up the cutting board and gently slide the sliders as one large loaf off the cutting board and into a casserole crock pot.
  • In a small bowl or coffee cup, mix together remaining ingredients.
  • Brush the tops of the sliders with the butter mixture liberally with a basting brush.
  • Cover and cook on high for 1.5 to 2 hours, turning your insert halfway through if your slow cooker doesn't cook evenly.
  • If desired, and your insert is broiler safe, place your rolls on the lower rack in your oven with your broiler on high for 30-60 seconds to crisp up the tops. (Watch continually and do not walk away. You can go from perfection to burnt very quickly in a broiler.)
  • Cut the sliders apart and serve

  • Grease the inside of a slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray and line it with a large piece of parchment paper. The paper should be long enough to go about three-quarters of the way up the sides of the slow cooker (this makes removing the finished pizza easier). Grease the parchment paper with nonstick cooking spray.
  • In a large sauté pan, heat 1 tablespoon of the olive oil over medium heat. Crumble the sausage into the pan and sauté until it's fully cooked, 8 to 10 minutes. Stir in the garlic and the Italian herb seasoning and cook until fragrant, 1 minute more. Set aside to cool slightly.
  • Pour 1 tablespoon of the olive oil into the slow cooker and brush around to coat the bottom. Stretch the pizza dough by hand to about the size of the slow cooker. Place the pizza dough inside the slow cooker and use your fingers to stipple it all over, pushing it to the walls of the slow cooker to fully cover the base.
  • Spoon ½ cup of the marinara sauce on top of the pizza dough and use the back of a spoon to spread it into an even layer, leaving about ½ inch uncovered around the edge.
