HOW TO COOK TRI TIP IN THE OVEN

How to Cook Tri Tip in the Oven image

Cooking Tri-Tip in the Oven is a low maintenance way of having a delicious meal packed full of flavor for all to enjoy. This tri-tip is beautifully seared on the outside and nice and juicy on the inside. This easy to follow recipe is marinated in a simple dry rub blend of salt, granulated garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika.

Provided by Cree

Categories     Main Course

Time 1h55m

Number Of Ingredients 6

3 lb tri tip
1/2 tbsp garlic powder
1/2 tbsp onion powder
1 tsp smoked paprika
1 tbsp kosher salt (salt generously unless you follow a low-sodium diet)
1 cup chicken broth (low sodium)

Steps:

  • Wash tri-tip and pat dry with clean paper towels. Season with salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika and marinate by placing in ziploc bag then into the fridge for 1 hour or over night.
  • After marinating, remove from the fridge and place on the counter-top, so it comes to room temperature. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  • Place oven-safe skillet on stove-top over high heat. Using grape-seed oil or other cooking oil, drizzle side with fat cap first and place that side down to sear for 8 minutes or so flip over and drizzle other side and sear.
  • Add chicken broth to the skillet and place in oven to continue cooking. Baste tri-tip with pan juices every so often.
  • Check internal temperature of the tri-tip by inserting a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the tri-tip. When it has reached your desired internal temperature, remove from oven. As a reference, the internal temperature in the photos is 145 degrees F.
  • Allow the tri-tip to rest for at least 20 minutes for juices to redistribute. Then, thinly slice trip-tip against the grain and serve.

EASY OVEN-ROASTED TRI-TIP

Easy Oven-Roasted Tri-Tip image

Juicy, flavorful tri-tip roast is rubbed in spices, then cooked in the oven to medium-rare. It's an inexpensive cut that produces impressive results!

Provided by Vered DeLeeuw

Categories     Main Course

Time 2h10m

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 tablespoon Diamond Crystal kosher salt ((not fine salt))
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon ground cumin
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
2 whole tri-tips (about 2 pounds each)
Oil spray

Steps:

  • In a small bowl, use a fork to mix together the spices.
  • If it hasn't been trimmed by the butcher, trim the silver skin from the bottom of the roasts.
  • Rub the spice mixture all over the meat, pressing to make sure it adheres.
  • Place the meat, fat side up, on a gresed rack in a roasting pan and allow it to get to room temperature, about 1 hour.
  • Preheat the oven to 500°F. If the meat is completely trimmed of fat (I get mine at Costco and it's fully trimmed), lightly spray it with oil.
  • Insert a meat thermometer into the thickest part of one of the roasts and set the thermometer to 130°F or 135°F (medium-rare).
  • Place the roasts in the 500°F oven and cook them for 15 minutes.
  • Reduce the oven temperature to 350°F. Keep roasting the meat until the thermometer registers 130°F-135°F. For 2- lb. roasts this should take roughly 20 minutes (10 minutes per pound). But the only way to know for sure is to use a meat thermometer.
  • Remove the roasts from the oven. Loosely cover them with foil and allow them to rest for 20-30 minutes, then cut into thin slices against the grain (see notes below) and serve.

Time P1DT1h12m

Number Of Ingredients 7

2 Pound Tri Tip Roast
1 Tbsp Olive Oil
1 Tbsp Coarse Sea Salt or Kosher Salt
12 Turns Fresh Ground Black Pepper
1 tsp Garlic Powder
1 tsp Seasoned Salt
1/2 cup Water or Chicken Broth

Steps:

  • Preheat Oven to 275 Degrees
  • If you are using the Cosori Air Fryer Oven I used the Roast setting and also turned on the low speed convection fan.
  • If using a temperature probe insert lengthwise in the thickest part of the roast.
  • Season Roast with Salt, Pepper, Garlic, and Seasoned Salt. Pat in the spices.
  • Rub Roast with Olive Oil
  • Place roast on roasting pan with a rack to keep roast elevated off the bottom of the pan.
  • Pour 1/2 Cup of Water or Broth in Bottom of Roasting Pan.
  • Place roast in oven and roast at 275 degrees for about 42 minutes. This can take up to an hour. Cook meat to an internal temperature of 128 degrees for rare to medium-rare.
  • Once the meat has reached the desired temperature it is time to sear the meat. This can be done under the broiler, on a medium-high grill or in a skillet.
  • Sear time on broil in the Cosori Air Fryer Oven was 10 minutes per side.Sear time under the broiler or on a grill would be 5 minutes per side.Pan searing would be about 5 minutes per side.
  • Once the meat has been seared meat must rest. I find 20 to 30 minutes is sufficient.
  • Slice meat across the grain with the knife on an angle.
  • Enjoy this wonderful cut of meat.

THE BEST BEEF TRI-TIP

The Best Beef Tri-Tip image

I received a food wish for roast beef recently, which can be done with many different cuts. I ended up deciding on beef tri-tip, since it's affordable, flavorful, great for parties, and, using this low-temp roasting technique, nearly fool-proof. No marinating, no searing, no nothing; just rub on some salt and spices and pop it into the oven until it reaches the doneness you want. Plate it up with a Romano bean salad or enjoy as a roast beef sandwich!

Provided by Chef John

Categories     Meat and Poultry Recipes     Beef     Steaks

Time 2h

Yield 8

Number Of Ingredients 9

2 tablespoons kosher salt
1 tablespoon freshly ground black pepper
1 tablespoon smoked paprika
1 teaspoon garlic powder
¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon dried rosemary
1 tablespoon chopped fresh rosemary leaves
1 (2 1/2 pound) beef tri-tip roast
½ cup beef broth

Steps:

  • Preheat the oven to 225 degrees F (110 degrees C).
  • Mix salt, pepper, paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, dried rosemary, and fresh rosemary together in a small bowl.
  • Place tri-tip in a baking pan. Season generously with the spice rub until both sides are completely covered.
  • Bake in the preheated oven until an instant-read thermometer inserted into the thickest part reads 130 degrees F (54 degrees C) for medium-rare, or until desired doneness, 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Flip meat over halfway.

Yield 6 to 8 servings

Number Of Ingredients 7

1 tablespoon vegetable oil
One 3-pound trip-tip roast
Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper
2 yellow onions, sliced
1 package onion soup mix
2 sprigs fresh thyme
2 bay leaves

Steps:

Stir in the onion soup mix, thyme, bay leaves and 2 cups water. Add the meat with all its juices back to the pot. Bring the liquid to a simmer. Cover, transfer the pot to the oven and cook until the meat is very tender but still sliceable, 2 1/2 to 3 hours.
  • Transfer the meat to a cutting board. Discard the thyme sprigs and bay leaves from the braising liquid and skim off any excess fat. Slice the meat across the grain into slices 1/2 to 1 inch thick, spoon the braising liquid over and serve hot.
