I just came across the recipe in my files. This is from my grandmother. She used to make these for my sisters and I when we visited her. I had to improvise the name, because on my card it's called My Grandchildren's Secret Recipe. I remember making these with her one visit. She was an amazing cook and had a way of making you feel as though 'you' were the secret ingredient in all the amazing recipes she made.

1 loaf soft thin sliced bread (my grandma made it with white bread)
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup sugar
1 egg yolk
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 teaspoon cinnamon
3/4 cup sugar

Steps:

  • Cut the crust off the bread and flatten with a rolling pin.
  • Mix the cream cheese, sugar and egg yolk.
  • Spread the filling on the bread, and roll up.
  • Mix cinnamon and sugar.
  • Dip sticks in melted butter, and then dip in cinnamon sugar mix.
  • Sticks can be frozen at this time.
  • Place on greased baking sheet, and bake at 325 degrees for about 15-20 minutes, or until lightly browned.

8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1 egg yolk
3/4 cup powdered sugar
1 cup sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
3/4 cup melted butter

Steps:

  • Flatten bread with a rolling pin.
  • Mix cream cheese, egg yolk, and powdered sugar.
  • Combine sugar and cinnamon; set aside.
  • Spread 1 T cheese mixture on each slice bread.
  • Roll up.
  • Dip in melted butter, then in cinnamon sugar.
  • Place on ungreased baking sheet.
  • Bake at 350°F for 20 minutes, or until golden.

2 Pillsbury Crescent Recipe Creations refrigerated flaky dough sheet
1 cup sugar
1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese (I use 1/3 less fat)
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4-1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup sugar mixed with 2 t. cinnamon

Steps:

  • Layer one package crescent rolls on the bottom of a 9" x 13" pan. Pat to the edges.
  • Mix together the cream cheese, sugar, and vanilla and layer on top of the rolls.
  • Lay the other can of crescent rolls on top of the cream cheese mixture.
  • Pour the melted butter over all and then sprinkle with the cinnamon/sugar mixture. *When I use a full stick of butter I have pools of butter/cinnamon to spoon around after baking. If I use ½ stick it seems to do less of this. Your choice.
  • Bake at 350 F for 30 minutes.
  • Bon appetite!

Spread about 1 tablespoon of cheese mixture on each slice of bread. Roll up, jelly roll style. Dip in melted butter, then in cinnamon-sugar. Place on an ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350° for 20 minutes or until golden brown. Good warm or cold.
