1 cup butter
1/2 cup shortening or 1/2 cup butter
1 cup white sugar
1 cup brown sugar, packed
3 eggs
4 cups all-purpose flour, sifted
2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup chopped pecans or 1 cup other nuts

Steps:

  • Melt together butter and shortening, add both sugars, mix well.
  • Add eggs to this mixture and beat until batter is light in color.
  • Sift the already sifted flour with the soda and salt.
  • Add the vanilla and nuts.
  • Cover and chill this dough until firm.
  • Roll out into 1 inch balls and place at least two inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake at 350 degrees for 7- 10 minutes.
