Who says healthy food can't taste good? My wedding is just around the corner, and I am inspired to make healthy dishes that also taste amazing! My favorite restaurant in Vancouver is Phnom Penh, and their Vietnamese Inspired Chicken Wings is the best out there! Today, I share my healthy version of air-fried CRISPY chicken wings tossed in a sour and savory garlic sauce. You NEED to give these refreshing and crispy Vietnamese Inspired Chicken Wings a try; they are perfect for the summer!

1.5 lb of Chicken Wings and Drumettes
1 tsp of Baking Powder
0.5 tbsp of Garlic Powder
Salt and Pepper (to season)
¼ cup of Rice Flour
6 cloves of Garlic (minced)
3 tbsp of Fish Sauce
2 tbsp of Sugar
1 tbsp of Red Pepper Flakes
0.5 tbsp of Chicken Powder
1 tsp of White Pepper (optional)
2 Lime's Juice
Cilantro

Steps:

  • Mix chicken wings, baking powder, garlic powder, ¼ cup of rice flour, salt, and pepper in a large bowl. Make sure that every piece of chicken is coated in rice flour; add more if needed.
  • Preheat the air-fryer to 350F for 5 minutes. After 5 minutes, spray the air fryer to prevent the chicken from sticking, and add in the chicken. Spray on some oil on top of the chicken (optional), and fry at 350F for 12 minutes.
  • Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to do this in batches. Leave some space in between the chicken so it can be crispy up easier.
  • After 12 minutes, toss the chicken around, spray a little more oil (optional) and bring the temperature up to 400F to fry for another 10-15 minutes. Every air fryer is slightly different, so keep an eye out to prevent it from burning.
  • Add minced garlic, fish sauce, sugar, red pepper flakes, chicken powder, white pepper (optional), and lime juice in a large mixing bowl. Mix and taste; if you find the fish sauce too salty, add in a little bit more sugar.
  • Once the chicken is fried, add the chicken to the sauce and toss with chopped cilantro.

These Vietnamese Fish Sauce Chicken Wings (Canh Ga Chien Nuoc Mam) are made in the air fryer in just 30 minutes. They are crispy and coated with a tasty savory-sweet sauce.

1.5 lbs chicken wings, cut into drumettes and flats, pat dry
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 tablespoon water
1 1/2 tablespoon fish sauce
1 1/3 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon minced garlic
black pepper

Steps:

  • Preheat air fryer if recommended in the manual.
  • Toss the chicken drumettes and flats with salt. Then place them in the air fryer basket without overlapping. Cook at 320F (160C) for about 20-24 minutes. My 220V air fryer has a 2200 watt heating system and I just need to cook for 20 minutes. If yours is less powerful, I recommend increasing the temperature to 340-350F (170-180C).
  • When time is up, open the basket and shake if needed. Then increase the temperature to 400F (200C) and cook for about 6-7 minutes or until the wings are crispy.
  • While crisping up the wings in the air fryer, place a small pan over medium heat. Combine water, fish sauce and honey and heat until the mixture starts to bubble. Add garlic and black pepper, stir and simmer the sauce for a few more seconds until fragrant and thickened.
  • Place chicken wings in a mixing bowl, drizzle the sauce and toss to coat the wings evenly. Serve immediately.

1/2 cup Asian fish sauce
1/2 cup superfine sugar
4 cloves garlic
2kg chicken wings

Steps:

  • Combine the crushed garlic cloves, fish sauce and sugar in a bowl.
  • Place chicken wings into a marinating dish container with a lid. Pour over marinade, seal and shake to coat chicken in marinade.
  • Leave the chicken to marinate overnight. Shake your container every few hours to ensure full coverage with marinade.
  • Place chicken in the air fryer tray and cook for approximately 16-18 minutes on 180 degrees Celsius, or until golden.
  • Serve with salad, rice or the side dish of your choice. Enjoy!

These sticky fish sauce wings in the air fryer recipe are all about keeping it simple. They are basically crispy air fried wings smothered in a delicious sweet sticky glaze made from fish sauce.

1 kg chicken wings ((if frozen, thaw them out first))
1 tsp salt
2 tbsp canola oil
spray oil, (for greasing)
1 tbsp fish sauce
3 tbsp white sugar
1 tbsp water
1 tsp white vinegar
2 tsp lemon (or to your taste)
1 tsp white sugar
4 sprigs coriander, (roughly chopped)
fresh chilli, (roughly chopped)
chilli flakes
fried garlic bits

Steps:

  • Wash the wings under a tap and pat dry.
  • In a large mixing bowl, add the wings, oil and the salt. Combine well.
  • Spray the air fryer / racks with some oil and warm up the air fryer at 200 C / 392 F.

Use an air fryer to make these easy chicken wings, and add the seasoning or sauce of your choice. They're perfect for a buffet or just a movie night snack

1kg chicken wings
1 tbsp sunflower or olive oil
seasoning of your choice (use salt and pepper, or ½-1 tsp of either smoky BBQ, ras-el-hanout, garlic granules, celery salt or garam masala)
dipping sauce, to serve (optional)

Steps:

  • Separate each chicken wing in two at the joint, removing the wing tips if you like using sharp kitchen scissors. Toss the chicken wings in the oil and seasoning, then tip into an air fryer (you can either use one with a paddle, or arrange them on the tray of your air fryer if it doesn't have a paddle).
  • Program the air fryer to cook for 35 mins. Check the wings are tender and cooked through - they should be almost falling off the bone - and cook for a further 5 mins if needed. The skin should have bubbled and crisped up, and any excess fat from the chicken will have dripped off into base of the fryer (discard this). Don't leave the chicken in the fryer, or the steam will make the skin soft again. Immediately tip into a bowl and serve with sauce for dipping.

½ cup ketchup
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 tablespoon sherry
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
1 teaspoon minced garlic
1 pound boneless skinless chicken breast, sliced in half horizontally
1 pinch salt and ground black pepper to taste
2 large eggs, beaten
1 ½ cups panko bread crumbs
1 serving cooking spray

Steps:

  • Whisk ketchup, soy sauce, brown sugar, sherry, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic together in a bowl until sugar has dissolved. Set katsu sauce aside.
  • Preheat an air fryer to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • Meanwhile, lay chicken pieces on a clean work surface. Season with salt and pepper.
  • Place beaten eggs in a flat dish. Pour bread crumbs into a second flat dish. Dredge chicken pieces in egg and then in bread crumbs. Repeat by dredging chicken in egg and then bread crumbs again, pressing down so that the bread crumbs stick to the chicken.
  • Place chicken pieces in the basket of the pre-heated air fryer. Spray the tops with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Air fry for 10 minutes. Flip chicken pieces over using a spatula and spray the tops with nonstick cooking spray. Cook for 8 minutes more. Transfer chicken to a cutting board and slice. Serve with katsu sauce.
