HOMEMADE SODA SYRUP

Provided by Nellie

Number Of Ingredients 3

1 cup water
2 cups sugar
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar

Steps:

  • Mix together water and sugar in a heavy sauce pan, along with whatever you want to flavor your soda. Put on stove on high heat. Heat to boiling, stirring occasionally. IMMEDIATELY remove from heat. Note: Really, watch closely so it doesn't boil over. It boils over easily.
  • Turn stove down to simmer (lowest setting), and return pan to heat. Make sure that you've waited long enough for the heat to actually go down to a lower setting, so you aren't in danger of boiling the syrup over again. Simmer for 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add 1/4 tsp cream of tartar, and let cool.
  • Pour into a container and save to use! Add a small amount to the bottom of a glass, and top it off with carbonated water. We used about 3 tablespoons soda syrup for our 12 oz. bottle of soda, but you can use whatever tastes right.

ITALIAN SODA SYRUP

Italian Soda Syrup image

How to make your own soda flavoring syrup. Experiment with different flavors to make a unique soda just for you. So Easy! One of the first things I learned to make when I started cooking. Heating longer will make it thicker. Heat for less to make it thinner. This is also good on Ice cream and pancakes. Yum!

SUGARPLUM SODA SYRUP

Sugarplum Soda Syrup image

Visons of sugarplums dance in our heads, sparkle in soda water and shine in festive cocktails. Tie a gift tag with serving instructions around the neck of the bottle, and maybe another with a recipe for a grown-up drink. The syrup brings a ton of holiday cheer to a vodka martini.

Categories     condiment

Time 1h10m

Yield 2 cups

Number Of Ingredients 10

1 cup golden raisins
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 cup dried apricots, roughly chopped
1/2 cup pitted dates, chopped
1/2 cup honey
3 cardamom pods
1 cinnamon stick
1/2 a whole nutmeg
1 teaspoon almond extract
Purple food coloring, as desired

Steps:

  • Combine the raisins, sugar, apricots, dates, honey, cardamom, cinnamon stick and nutmeg in 2 1/2 cups water in a medium saucepan over high heat and bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Reduce the heat to low and simmer until the mixture reduces to a thin syrup, about 20 minutes.
  • Slowly pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer, gently pressing on the fruit to extract all the syrup. Discard the solids. Stir in the almond extract. Add the food coloring a drop at a time until the desired shade is reached. Allow the soda syrup to cool completely before bottling, about 30 minutes.
  • Suggestion for use: Fill a glass with 8 ounces of cold seltzer water, then add 2 tablespoons soda syrup and stir gently (feel free to add more or less syrup to taste). Garnish with an orange slice.
