COOKIE JAR SUGAR COOKIES

Steps:

• Combine the flour with the baking powder, baking soda, salt and nutmeg. In a clean 1 quart-sized glass jar with a wide mouth layer the white sugar followed by the flour mixture. Press firmly in place and seal. Attach a card with the following instructions:
• "In a large bowl, beat 1 cup room-temperature butter until light and fluffy. Mix in 1 egg until combined. Add 1/2 cup sour cream and 1 teaspoon vanilla and blend at low speed. Gradually add contents of jar and mix until fully incorporated. Wrap cookie dough in plastic or foil and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Remove dough from the refrigerator. Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Roll chilled dough out on a lightly floured surface and cut dough into desired shapes. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) until edges are golden brown, 10 to 12 minutes."

OLD FASHIONED SUGAR COOKIES IN A JAR

Steps:

• In a medium bowl, stir together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt; set aside. In a 1 quart large mouth jar, layer the sugar on the bottom and the flour mixture on top. Attach a tag with the following instructions:
• Empty the contents of the jar into a large bowl. Cut in 1 cup of softened butter until the mixture is crumbly. In a separate bowl, beat 2 eggs, 1 teaspoon vanilla and 1/2 teaspoon of lemon extract until light and fluffy. Pour into the dry ingredients and mix until well blended. Cover bowl and chill for 1 hour.
• Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). On a lightly floured surface, roll the dough out to 1/4 inch in thickness. Cut into desired shapes with cookie cutters. Place cookies 1 1/2 inches apart onto cookie sheets.
• Bake for 10 to 12 minutes in the preheated oven, until edges begin to brown. You can decorate them with sugar before baking of frost after baking.

• 3. Sugar Cookies In a large bowl: beat 1 egg with 1 cup softened butter or margarine until light and fluffy. At low speed of an electric mixer add 1/2 cup sour cream, 1 teaspoon vanilla and contents of jar. Mix until combined, using hands if necessary. Cover dough and refrigerate for several hours or overnight. Remove dough from the refrigerator. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Roll chilled dough out on a lightly floured surface to 1/8" thick. Cut dough into desired shapes. Place on an ungreased cookie sheet and bake at 375°F (190°C) for 10 to 12 minutes.

COOKY-JAR SUGAR COOKIES

Steps:

• Thoroughly cream the SOFTENED butter and the sugar, orange extract, and vanilla.
• NOTE: I prefer orange extract over the zest because I think it has a stronger flavor. Although zesting an orange is probably cheaper.
• Add egg; beat until fluffy, stir in the milk.
• sift the dry ingredients. (The flour, baking powder and salt.).
• Stir the dry ingredients into the wet and blend well.
• Divide the dough in half.
• Chill for 1 hour or overnight.
• After an hour or the next day, on a floured surface, roll half of the dough to 1/8 inch thick. (keep the remaining dough chilled until you are ready to roll it.).
• Cut into shapes and place them on a greased baking sheet.
• at this point you can decorate them with candy, raisins, nuts and colored sugars if you want.
• Bake at 375 degrees F for 6 to 8 minutes.
• Cool slightly and remove them from the pan.
• Enjoy!

COOKIE JAR PEANUT BUTTER COOKIES

Steps:

• Heat oven to 350°.
• Sift together the flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt, set aside.
• Cream the butter, shortening, and both sugars in a large bowl with an electric mixer at medium speed until light and fluffy.
• Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition, then mix in the peanut butter.
• Add the flour mixture by the cupful and beat at low speed to mix well.
• Shape the dough into 1 inch balls and place on ungreased baking sheets (I line the sheets with parchment paper) about 2 inches apart.
• Press each cookie twice in each direction with a lightly floured fork to make a crosshatch design.
• Bake 10-12 minutes.
• ***Do not overbake--they will still be a bit pale, but if you overbake, they won't be chewy on the inside.
• ***Use a spatula to transfer to a rack to cool.
